Tipu’s Drop, Nandi Hills: Overview
Tipu’s Drop is one of the most interesting places to visit in Nandi Hills. It is situated on a cliff which is as high as 600m from the elevated ground. This place has a historical significance since it was used as a trailing spot during the reign of Tipu Sultan. The prisoners were punished for their wrongdoings by getting tossed off the cliff in the vagaries below. It is also said that the rustling of leaves around that place symbolizes the screams of the prisoners who were pushed below.
As you reach the top of the hill you will be able to get a majestic and panoramic view of the surroundings. Moreover, you can also visit Yoganandeeshwara temple, which was built by Chola kings, located on the other side of the hilltop. If you are a nature lover and adore scenic beauty, this place is a must-visit as it will provide you with a sense of peace and solitude.
Since Tipu’s Drop is located at the top of the cliff many instances of suicide and mishaps have taken place. However, preparations are being done and awareness is also being created among the visitors to make the spot a safer place and less accident-prone place.
